Ryan STA Propellers

Hello All,

I am interested to hear which propellers people are using on their Menasco powered Ryans.
In particular the C4-S 150hp and D4-87 137hp.

Also any experience you would be willing to share would be greatly appreciated.
How much you like the prop, what climb and cruise speeds you are seeing, etc..

Thanks,

Hi Everyone,

I received this email from Thierry Zibi and he is hoping to have a display of his LSA with a real Ryan ST at Oshkosh...read on if you may be able to help him out...and check out his LSA on his website!
Message: Hello,
We are building an LSA aircraft, called Sam LS which has the silhouette of the Ryan ST. I felt in love with the Ryan ST, back in 2007 and decided to built a \"modern\" and LSA version of it. 5 years later, we are currently building the prototype near Montreal, Canada and will present it at Oshkosh, we will be in booth 626 in the North aircraft Display. I think it will be wonderful to have the Ryan ST aside the Sam LS in the same booth...Do you know owners that will bring their Ryan ST to the next Oshkosh ? When I was at Oshksoh 2008 I seat in a Ryan ST, written on the fuselage S-21, I forget the owner\'name...
I am willing to participate in a certain extent to the cost of bringing a Ryan ST to Oshkosh.
Please look at the photos of my aircraft who was designed with the Ryan ST in mind.

Hi All,

I received this email from Jim Frits. Please see if you remember anything that may help us find his Father's former Ryan. I may have some data in Bill Hodges records if I had more information for the search. I have Bill's microfiche, as well, and I have a reader available, but no printer. Thanks, Lynne Orloff (ladyryanpilot@yahoo.com)
Message: My dad was a pilot for EAL. He also was A&E licensed and had restored several aircraft, one of which he and several other EAL pilots/A&E mechanics restored was a Ryan PT-22. Unfortunately we lost all slides/pictures in a fire, so no tail number. But, it had a unique insignia on the side, the \"Hat In the Ring\" from Capt Eddie Rickenbacker that dad contacted for permission to use. Is there a way the club members could be asked if any of them recall seeing the aircraft? It would just be nice to know if it was still flying. Thx

Hello all,

I am in search of what tires were originally installed on the Ryan ST-A coming from the factory, both the mains as well as the tailwheel. (size, style, manufacturor)

Additionally, I am interested to hear what people have been using instead, what fits and works well. Also, where can you find them? Is there a good supplier or a secret stash someone would be willing to share?
Thanks for the help!

Golden Age Simulations needs a tester

Hi Everyone,

I received a message from Gil Galpin of Golden Age Simulations. They have developed a PT-22 Simulation which uses the Microsoft FSX Flight Simulator. If you have access to one, they need someone that flies a Ryan PT-22 to test the flight dynamics to see if it matches our aircraft. You can reach Gil at greybeardgil@gmail.com. For anyone that wants to see what they are developing go to Golden Age Simulations Facebook. They are planning on releasing their software sometime this Winter.

Help with prop nut

Hi, i'm hoping someone can help me out.

I've recently spent some time rebuilding a Kinner R-55 that had been sitting in pieces on the floor of someone's barn for quite a long time. I had to make a bunch of pieces to replace the rusted/missing ones but at the end, i've got a running engine.

the last part that i am missing is a prop nut. currently i just have a nut i made to hold things together but it has no locking mechanism and works itself loose rather quickly

does anyone have detailed pictures of a prop nut to help me make one? or better yet, does anyone have one for sale?

It does not need to be an airworthy part. it just needs to work and lock in place.

here it is running: the stock carburetor and magnetos weren't fixable so i fuel injected the motor, but the motor is 100% unmodified.

Thanks in advance

Ron Chapel

It is with great sadness that I relate the passing of Ron Chapel. Being the private and quiet man that he was we did not know he was ill. He died in his favorite place, Montana. Just this past year he had told me that he had one of his Ryans almost ready to fly and hoped to be attending our next Ryan Fly-in. If you want to send his wife, Carolyn, a note I found this address for Ron in Livingston, MT about six blocks from the Yellowstone River which is where he told me he was located. It is: 316 South C St, Livingston, MT 59047. Ron was the kindest and most thoughtful man I have ever known. On a Ryan trip across from Harvey Bay to Lightning Ridge, Australia, I can still hear Ron asking Oce if he had "the little man in the teepee"... the antiquated GPSs we were flying required that you keep a line inside an upside down "V" if you were on course. It was not an intuitive instrument and Oce was "up in years" so Ron had worried that Oce would get off course and there was nothing below us to help in navigation. The xeroxed sectionals we were given at the company that rented us the safari craft did not have any territory on them right of our course...so, it would have been easy to get lost if you did not stay with the group, and fly "the little man in the teepee". That was Ron's quiet way of helping Oce and checking on his safe progress. That was the way he always was with other pilots, never judgmental or condescending.
Gary Niva has received word that the owner of one of Ron's Ryans, now in France, is planning on adding Ron's name to the cockpit as a memorial. That is very fitting! All of us feel very fortunate to have known him. Ron restored many a Kinner Engine and was one of our "go-to" Ryaneers when you had a question about the aircraft. He was a consummate pilot and a wonderful friend to us all! Ron, you will be missed!
