Obituary

Harold E. Ross passed away peacefully at his home in Palm Desert on July 1, 2005

Harold was born February 9, 1926 to Ralph and Margarette Midyett of St. Joseph, Missouri. He married Jennie Lee Ross in Chickasha, Oklahoma on March 30, 1945 and was predeceased by her on November 4, 1980. He assumed her maiden name on January 5, 1962. Hal is survived by their two sons Alex Ross and his wife Cinda of Lake Havasu City, Arizona: Danny Ross and his wife Carol of Bullhead City, Arizona; his sister Jewell (Deming) Butler of Tucson, Arizona; and four grandchildren. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1943 where he learned to fly (B-25) and was honorably discharged in 1945. He then became a flight instructor and a commercial airline pilot for Continental Airlines from 1948 to 1986. He accumulated 40,000 plus hours of in command commercial flight time and was one of the youngest to become a certified commercial jet pilot in the early days of the ?jet age.? Upon retirement from Continental in 1986 he continued his flying career as a corporate pilot for the Schwartz Corp., the Hofmann Co., and the Sinatra Family. He also flew a variety of personal aircraft and helicopters. His last flight and one of his greatest aviation memories was to deliver in person, his beloved 1940 Ryan S.T. to the Palm Springs Air Museum for all to enjoy for years to come.

A memorial service will be held July 17th at the Palm Springs Air Museum and will commence at 11AM followed by food, beverage and an opportunity to see, touch and explore the many exhibits the museum has to offer, especially Hal?s Ryan ST.
