Ewertz Wins Best Classic Age At Merced

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to Bill Ewertz, who took the award for best Classic Age last weekend at the Merced 47th Annual Antique Fly-In (June 4-6, 2004) with Ryan SCW c/n 214 N18900.

Bill writes:

The Merced, Cal. fly-in is one of the oldest and most attended of the antique fly-ins--particularly on the West Coast. It is always on the first weekend of June (my birthday, so we always celebrate). There were about 40 planes in the Classic category, but that includes the Cubs and Champs, too. I took best Classic, my friend Tom Morris got best warbird for his PT-26 and Frank Schilling got the Mayor's award for his Hisso Jenny. My Ryan SCW is the one built up of leftover parts after the war and certified with the E-185 engine. It is basically a two owner aircraft as the builder sold it to me when he quit flying.
